Ideally, you are out taking photos on a regular basis, and the coursework should keep your snapping, but some weeks you'll be light on camera-in-hand assignments, so these will get you out practicing.

TOPICS | WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS

Take the following photos, using the descriptions below:

Red balloon:  Get a red balloon. Take 10 photos. See?

           | requirements: 10 photos, uploaded to Flickr, saved in an album named 'red balloon', link submitted to Brightspace.

 

Through doors:  Take 10 photos through doors (or other openings). Note: obviously there should be something to see through the door.

           | requirements: 10 photos, uploaded to Flickr, saved in an album named 'Through doors', link submitted to Brightspace.

Reflect | tcelfeR  For this assignment you will reflect on ways to capture reflection. Mirrors, puddles, glass, ice, pools, sunglasses and more. Remember to consider what makes it into frame and what doesn't. Be aware of your composition.

           | requirements: Any number of photos, uploaded to Flickr, saved in an album named 'Reflect', link submitted to Brightspace.

 

Andy Goldsworthy:  We will be learning about and emulating some of the work of photographer Andy Goldsworthy, by searching for patterns and creating work from subjects in nature.

Bad Photo:  For this assignment, you’ll be playing with the settings on your camera to produce photos you can’t easily produce in automatic mode. You’ll be taking photos that your camera might consider “bad” in some technical way, but are nonetheless interesting to look at, and even artistic.

10 x 10 x 10 x 10  For this assignment you are on a bit of a scavenger hunt. You will work in pairs and travel 10 minutes from class to gather 10 photos in 10 minutes.

 Photo volleyball  Serve, set, smash! In this activity you will work with a teammate to outplay your competitors. You'll take 3 sets of photos, receiving and returning the other team's serve. At the end, one team wins. The winning group gets a 4/4. The loser gets either 3/4 or 3.5/4 depending on their photo.
