INTRO TO COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
Course Unit Overview
As an introduction to the course, we will be looking at how we communicate, and breaking down some of the processes involved. We will also start addressing the types of problems we will encounter throughout the semester and discover systematic approaches to problem solving.
Once we have covered these introductory processes, each student will be tasked with creating a blog based website which will act as a portfolio and work submission platform for the remainder of the course.

Adobe Illustrator is an industry standard vector-based drawing tool. It serves as our introduction to the Adobe creative suite, in part because it shares similar interface attributes to many of the other programs we will use in this course, but also because it has a less drastic learning curve, allowing new users to get right into creative exploration.
In this unit we build on our Illustrator skills and apply our ability to work with vector based objects to letterforms. During our study of type we learn about classic fonts and look at ways type change the personality of design and layouts.
03
Adobe Photoshop is the cornerstone of any multimedia curriculum. It is not only one of the best known and most powerful professional software packages we use, but in addition is incredibly versatile. The range of careers that require some knowledge of this software is extensive, and always growing. Designers, concept artists, planners, photographers and artists are among the wide variety of professionals that use this tool. Photoshop is truly at the heart of digital media.

The final unit for this course ties together all the elements we have learned this year. Students are to re-design a provided logo, drawing on skills from each unit and creating a product that weaves together their brain storming process, creative skills, and learned techniques.
05
Throughout the course we will touch on a variety of topics that fall under the umbrella of digital citizenship. This will include topics ranging from cyber-bullying to phishing schemes. We will learn the risks, responsibilities and rights of a responsible digital citizen. Unlike our other units, this will not be a start to finish unit, rather we will return to elements of this topic over the course of the semester multiple times.
