In class, we had to draw a complicated drawing that was described to us by a partner without ever seeing it. The challenge was to draw it accurately.

Described drawing

Using the UCM, and thinking about the drawing activity from class, identify the sender, the receiver, the message, the channel, and explain how information was encoded and decoded.

Sender: The describer, or the person who was explaining that shapes and where they were was the sender. They were sending the message to the other person.

Receiver: The receiver was the person drawing the picture. They were receiving the message.

Message: The message was the size, shape and orientation of the various shapes in the original drawing.

Channel: The channel that the message was sent on was the senders voice. The sender said the message.

Encode/Decode: The message was encoded in English. If you didn't speak English, you would not be able to decode (understand) the message.

What is noise/interference?

Interference is anything that blocks or interferes with a signal travelling from the sender to the receiver. We learned about different kinds of noise/interference. They were internal, external and semantic interference.

Thinking about the drawing activity from class, what type of interference had the most significant effect on your group?

Each group will have a different answer here.

Give an example of semantic interference.

Semantic interference is ...(explain this in your own words) An example of this is ... (come up with one of your own).
